Suspect in Orange Park shootout charged
Jarvis Lee , 27, still hospitalized, being held without bond
ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Jarvis Tyrone Lee was arrested Monday on several counts related to a car chase and exchange of gunfire with the Orange Park Police Department.
Police responded to a robbery in progress at the Checks Cashed at 644 Park Ave. just after 10 a.m. on Monday after a clerk triggered a silent alarm. Police said Sgt. Joel Grant spotted the suspect's car on Plainfield Avenue and began to pursue him.
Lee, 27, fired shots in the pursuit, hit a truck with his car and drove into Grant's patrol car, which spun him around before another police car hit him head-on. Grant shot Lee four times, and Lee was in critical condition at UF Health.
Lee was charged by the Clay County Sheriff's Office with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated fleeing and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle. The Green Cove Springs resident, who is a registered felon, was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Lee had been previously arrested in Clay County on March 2011 on multiple counts, including burglary, grand theft and felony criminal mischief.
Lee, who is still hospitalized, is being held without bond.
