Easton Corbin to share hits close to home at Florida Country Superfest

Country singer grew up two hours from Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For musicians, playing on the road is just a way of life. They get used to living out of their tour buses and playing unfamiliar areas many nights.

But country singer Easton Corbin's gig this weekend will be a little closer to home.

Corbin is one of the acts performing at the two-day Florida Country Superfest at EverBank Field in Jacksonville. He'll take the stage at 5:40 p.m. Sunday.

Corbin grew up just outside Gainesville in Gilchrist County. At last month's Bayou Country Superfest in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Channel 4's Chris Parenteau caught up with Corbin to talk about why he's looking forward to Sunday's show.

He said he was lucky enough to have his parents in Baton Rouge for his performance there, and they'll be in Jacksonville this weekend. He said playing in Florida makes this show very special for him.

"I always love playing at home," Corbin said. "It's about two hours from my hometown. It really makes you feel at home."

Corbin's new song, "Clockwork," is making it's way up the country charts. On stage, Corbin — who has a traditional country sound — will sometimes play songs from the past.

"I love my stuff, but I love performing my heroes' songs," Corbin said. "Sometimes I'll do 'Heaven Was a Drink of Wine,' a lot of obscure stuff that Merle Haggard did and George Jones did."

Shows like the Florida Country Superfest are unusual. There aren't many stadium festivals in country music that draw nearly 50,000 fans each day. But Corbin said having the chance to play something different from the usual arenas and amphitheaters is a great change.

"It's a great chance to play in front of a lot of people and make a lot of fans out there, but also play for a lot that are already your fans," Corbin said. "We like to get out there and have a good time. We like to keep the energy up and get the fans involved to be as loud as they can."

Corbin's performance will be followed on Sunday by Florida Georgia Line, Miranda Lambert and Luke Bryan. Eric Church and Jason Aldean headline Saturday's show.
