A dog who's captured the hearts of many for guarding his dying friend now needs a new home.
Michael Mason snapped the picture that's now gone viral of the dog standing over his companion, who was lying on the side of a road in Atlanta.
"The look on his face. 'Can someone help me?' He was watching over him like a guard dog," Mason told Atlanta TV station WSB.
The dog on the road later died.
But his friend, named Herman by veterinarians, is now at Fulton County Animal Services and is in need of a new home.
A Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Herman is described as very kind and smart enough to learn how to open the back fences at animal control.
"We are grateful someone stopped and cared enough to take a picture and share it to demonstrate the power of a dog's love. And this sweet animal didn't leave his friend when she was injured," Cicley Gay with LifeLine Animal Project told WSB.
