Woman captures arrest on camera
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville woman, who wants to remain anonymous, said she called police after seeing a strange man in her backyard. About 10 minutes later the man was being handcuffed and she got the entire thing on camera.
The woman said police told her the man was involved in an accident a few blocks away and that they were looking for him. She said she saw the guy pacing around and heard sirens nearby. She figured she should pick up the phone and find out if this guy was wanted for something.
"I had no idea what he was doing back there," she said. "What if he decides to break into someone's house."
The woman said she has a background in law enforcement and knows when someone is acting suspicious.
She called JSO. The dispatcher told her there had been an accident nearby and they were looking for someone involved. Fie minutes later a JSO deputy showed up at her door.
"(The deputy) said, "Can I go in your backyard?,'" the woman said. "Again, he asked me what the gentleman looked like and I gave him a very clear description, and then he said he was going to bring the K9's by and see what's going on."
That's when the woman began recording the encounter. The woman said she felt like she did her civic duty, protecting not only herself, but her neighbors as well.
"Like my father used to say, 'Carry a big stick and walk quietly.' That's a good one. In my case, I carry a big gun and walk quietly," she said.
News4Jax reached out to officials to find out what happened with the man and if he was involved in an accident, but have not heard back.
