Body of missing canoeist found in Rodman Reservoir

PALATKA, Fla. – Florida wildlife officers said the body of Danny Lee Williams was found Sunday, one day after the husband and father of five was last seen canoeing on the Rodman Reservoir.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office was called around 1 a.m. Saturday when a boater spotted a capsized canoe with no sign of the man operating it.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission searched all day Saturday and Sunday until the body was recovered.

Family members told News4Jax that Williams served in the military and was a strong swimmer with good survival skills.

Williams' funeral has been set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Flagg Serenity Memorial Chapel at 2400 Madison Street in Palatka. His viewing will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday.
