Clay County seeking 3 in medical equipment theft

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Clay County Sheriff's Office is asking the public's help identifying and finding three men who stole medical equipment from a pharmacy in Clay County last week.

Deputies on Wednesday released surveillance video from inside the Walgreens on County Road 220 in Fleming Island. It shows three men working together to steal heart rate monitors, diabetic test equipment and other medical items about 8 p.m. Aug. 12.

One man can be seen working to steal those items while the other one looks out to make sure no one is watching. Deputies said a third man served as a lookout in the parking lot.

A clerk on duty said she did not witness the men take the merchandise, but heard the alarm go off when they left without paying.

According to the police report, a witness said the men left the store parking lot together in a small, white car that was possibly four doors.

Investigators said the men did not show a gun or a weapon and no one was hurt during the theft.

The store's manager believes the amount of the items stolen is worth about $800.

Many times thefts from a pharmacy are related to drugs, but Clay County detectives believe the men stole this equipment so they could possibly re-sell or trade it.

Anyone who knows who these suspects are, or their whereabouts, is asked to call the Clay County Sheriff's Office at 904-264-6512 or Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
