Last hours to vote early before Tuesday's primary
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Early voting in advance of Tuesday's primary ended Saturday in most northeast Florida counties, but continues through Sunday in Jacksonville and Bradford County.
Through Saturday, 36,268 votes were cast in Duval County -- 23,759 verified mail-in ballots and 12,509 at the 18 early voting sites around Jacksonville. That's just over 6.5 percent of registered voters.
Duval County Elections Supervisor Jerry Hollands said turnout is typically low for primary. He expects about 20 percent of registered voters to cast ballots by the time polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Holland is said that even though turnout is expected to be low, his staff still prepares like they do for every election.
"It really gets everything going. It's a live election for us, we count every ballot but it also tests everything out for the general election coming up November 4th," Holland said.
