JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A jury found a 37-year-old man guilty in the shooting death of a 28-year-old man during a drug deal in 2012, state attorneys said.

Jamie Lynn Meekins, 37, was found guilty Thursday of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

In May 2012, Meekins and 28-year-old Rodney Stone were involved in a drug deal when Meekins pulled a gun on Stone and shot him twice in the head, authorities said.

Meekins then drove the car with Stone in the passenger seat until crashing it at the corner of Phillips Highway and Olevia Street, according to state attorneys. Meekins climbed out of the wrecked vehicle, got into a truck and fled the scene.

Officers spotted the getaway vehicle afterward and conducted a traffic stop. Inside they found the gun that was used to kill Stone, as well as the Stone's blood on Meekins, authorities said.

Meekins now faces life in prison. He is set to be sentenced the week of Sept. 15.
