Man killed in shark attack while wife on beach
Swimmer pulled British man to shore, but he was pronounced dead
A British man was killed in a shark attack in Australia, all while his wife watched helplessly from the beach.
A swimmer eventually managed to pull 50-year-old Paul Wilcox to shore, but he was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering "severe" leg injuries, BBC News reported.
Beaches in the Byron Bay area were closed and swimmers were told to stay out of the water.
Eyewitness Mark Hickey said he saw a "six or seven foot" shark at the time of the attack.
"I saw what looked like seaweed but it was blood in the water," he said. "I didn't know it was a person but when I realized, I ran out and waded to the bank and grabbed him and did CPR but it was too late."
