FHP: Cyclist hit by SUV dies in St. Johns County

Bruce Lyndell Johnson, 53, died at Flagler Hospital

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A bicyclist died after he was hit by a small SUV late Monday night in St. Johns County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers identified him as Bruce Lyndell Johnson, 53, of Orlando.

The accident happened shortly before 10 p.m. on U.S. 1 near Creekside Drive.

Megan Mullins, 25, was driving a Honda CRV northbound on U.S. 1 when the right side of her vehicle struck Johnson, who was traveling southbound in the northbound lane, according to FHP.

Johnson was thrown onto the shoulder of the road in the collision. He was taken to Flagler Hospital where he later died.

Mullins was not injured and immediately stopped and called for help, according to FHP Sgt. Dylan Bryan. She was cooperating with troopers.

"Although she's not injured, she's obviously very upset," Bryan said of the driver.

Charges are pending, Bryan said.
