Police told WKMG-TV that the agency received a disturbance call and found Silvia, who threatened and confronted officers.

The officers tried to subdue Silvia with a Taser gun, but he "rendered it ineffective," police said.

The officers then shot Silvia, who was airlifted to Halifax Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, officials said.

Edgewater police Sgt. John Tarr and Officer Charles Geiger were placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
