FHP: Pedestrian hit, killed in Clay County

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A pedestrian was hit by a car and killed Saturday on Blanding Boulevard in Clay County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers said 76-year-old Russell Mee of Middleburg was driving north on Blanding Boulevard near Tanglewood Boulevard about 6 p.m. when a man who was trying to cross the road walked in front of his car and was hit.

FHP said Mee braked and swerved attempting to avoid hitting the pedestrian, but the man was hit by the right front side of Mee's Kia Sedona. Mee was not injured, but his passenger, 75-year-old Marion Lee, suffered minor injuries.

The pedestrian, whose name is being withheld until his family is notified, was taken to Orange Park Medical Center where he later died.
