34-year-old had been held on charges of kidnapping, sexual battery, auto theft

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – Clay County investigators have charged a sexual predator with the murder of a Middleburg mother in addition to the charges he was already facing of kidnapping and capital sexual battery.

Donald Davidson Jr. has been in jail for a couple of days on charges of kidnapping and raping Roseann Welsh's 10-year-old daughter. He appeared before a judge Friday morning to face the added the murder charge.

Deputies said he killed Welsh, then took the girl.

He was found hours later in Orange Park. The girl was found safe.

The 34-year-old sexual predator was on controlled release from prison and cut off his GPS monitor late Monday afternoon, deputies said. They said that within hours, he had strangled, stabbed and killed Welsh.

Davidson then took off in a stolen minivan with the girl, deputies said. She was able to get back home within the hour, but Davidson managed to elude a manhunt by sheriff's deputies and U.S. marshals for about eight hours.

Davidson got out of prison in September, registered as a sexual predator and moved to a home in Middleburg.
