Pedestrian struck by car on Philips Highway critical

Man suffers life-threatening injuries


JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man is fighting for his life after police say he was hit by a car on Philips Highway.

The accident happened just after 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police said they were called to the scene after the man was hit. A silver Corvette struck the pedestrian and stopped immediately. Police said the driver of the Corvette is cooperating.

Officials haven't revealed how fast the car was traveling, but they did reveal some information about the victim prior to the crash.

"The officer identified witnesses and per witness testimony, the victim prior to the traffic crash ... had been seen walking back and forth across both lanes," said Lt. Larry Kitchen, with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. "(It suggests) that either he had a medical condition and or he had an impairment due to alcohol."

The man that was struck was taken to UF Health Jacksonville. His injuries are said to be life-threatening.
