Selfie helps police ID suspect being sought
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said it is looking for a man they identified from a selfie on a cellphone he dropped after breaking into a car.
Police said that about 4:25 p.m. Oct. 24, Gerrod Bookhart was seen burglarizing a car parked at LA Fitness at 6000 Lake Grey Blvd. on the Westside.
A witness saw him and a struggle ensued, police said. They said Bookhart fled, dropping a cellphone, an iPod and the victim's stolen items. The cellphone led to a photo of a selfie, which helped investigators identify him, police said.
Bookhart has active warrants for burglary with assault or battery, and possession of burglary tools. He is known to frequent the Westside, police said.
Anyone who has any information on Bookhart's whereabouts is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
