Right whale, calf spotted off Georgia coast

CUMBERLAND ISLAND, Ga. – A Right whale and her new calf were spotted off the coast of Georgia on Saturday.

The Florida Fish wand Wildlife Conservation Commission said this is the first sighting of Right whales this season.

An FWC aerial survey plane spotted the whales 16 nautical miles east of Cumberland Island, Georgia.

The FWC said the mom, who does not have a nickname, is 24 years old, and this is her fifth documented calf.

The pair were sighted again Sunday, just north of their Saturday location.
