Fisherman finds body in retention pond

JSO: Several homeless camps known in area

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday it received a call for a fisherman who saw what he thought was a body floating in some type of retention pond at the dead end of Almeda and 10th streets

When officers arrived, they determined it was a body. JSO said a dive team was en route to pull the body from the pond. They said the body was a ways off shore in about 10 feet of water.

A cause of death was not given, but JSO said the person was an adult. A positive identity would take some time once the body was recovered. Police were waiting for the Medical Examiner to perform an autopsy.

JSO said there are several homeless camps known to be in that area, which is something the department looking into.
