Deputies: Woman found shot to death in backyard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Sheriff's Office received a call of a person shot around 8 p.m. in the 1200 block of East 12th Street.

Deputies said a black woman was found shot to death in the backyard. The people inside the house were taken to JSO headquarters for questioning, but deputies did not say who shot the woman or why.

It was unclear how many people were taken in for questioning.

JSO investigators will be canvassing the neighborhood trying to find a cause to the shooting. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots in the area but it was also unclear if anyone was spotted near the house.

Deputies said there were at least two to three people living in the home at the time of the shooting, but it was unclear who was at home, if anyone, at the time of the shooting.

The Sheriff's Office was in the process of getting a search warrant for the property to begin the search for evidence.

There was no suspect information at the time of the media briefing. The victim was not identified pending a full investigation and notification of next of kin.

It was also unclear who placed the 911 call.
