Cheney said he rolled onto the hood of the vehicle and hit the front windshield before falling to the pavement. He said the car stopped, and the driver asked if he was OK, but then drove away.

"Although accidents happen, this is a serious incident. Anyone who is involved in a crash resulting in the injury of any person is required to stop their vehicle, provide assistance and wait for law enforcement," said Sheriff James Manfre. "We're hoping that someone will come forward so we can resolve this matter."

The vehicle is described as a gray or silver, four-door Chevrolet Impala that was possibly driven by an older woman. Cheney was transported to Florida Flagler Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
