Felon convicted of attempted murder of officer

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 21-year-old man was convicted Friday afternoon on charges of second-degree attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and fleeing law enforcement.

In 2013, Khalaf J. Miller drove his car into a Jacksonville Sheriff's Officer who was assisting other officers on Blanding Boulevard. After striking the officer, Miller continued to drive away. He then hit a tree and fled the area on foot. Minutes later, officers captured Miller, according to court documents.

Miller now faces up to life in prison as a habitual felony offender. He has two felony convictions for possession of cocaine. Miller will be sentenced the week of March 23.
