Motorycle officer hurt in I-10 crash

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says officer was sideswiped by car

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – While responding to an accident on I-10 near McDuff Ave. Friday morning, Jacksonville Sheriff's Officer Keith Geiger was struck by a car that was trying to avoid the accident.

Officials say that the vehicle entered the emergency lane to bypass the accident and struck Geiger with the passenger side mirror, causing minor injuries to his left hand.

JSO has supervisors investigating the accident, but there was no word on whether the driver of the car would face charges.

The accident occurred about 8:15 a.m.

Because only the lane from the entrance ramp from McDuff to I-10 was closed, town-bound traffic was slow, but not blocked.

News4Jax has a crew at the scene. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
