Flagler sheriff warns of telephone scam

Caller claims to be from Sheriff's Office

PALM COAST, Fla. – The Flagler County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about a telephone scam. The Sheriff's Office says it's getting calls about someone claiming to be a lieutenant with the Warrant Division.

The caller says that you've missed a grand jury appointment. Then the caller says court costs and administrative fees can be paid by getting a Netspend Card from Winn Dixie.

"Members of the Flagler County Sheriff's Office will not contact citizens by telephone regarding court appearances and certainly will not request payment for fees or administrative costs," said Sheriff James Manfre.

Anyone who receives a telephone call of this nature should not give out personal information over the phone and should not send money, gift cards, cashier's checks, or pre-paid credit cards.
