NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – A 20-year-old man is dead after being partially ejected from a vehicle during a crash Sunday morning in Nassau County, according to the Nassau County Sheriff's Office

Just before 3 a.m., a 2002 Subaru WRX driven by 20-year-old John Cannon of Jacksonville was heading east on Griffin Road near Hickox Lane. Hailee Boucher, 16, of Yulee, and Joshua Chavis, 20, of Callahan, were inside, according to FHP.

Troopers say the car approached a right-hand curve and Cannon lost control, causing the car to cross the double yellow line. Troopers say the vehicle continued straight and started to rotate before hitting a guardrail. The car then overturned and struck a tree before coming to a stop.

According to troopers, Chavis was partially ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt. Cannon, the driver, was not wearing a seat belt either, but troopers say Boucher was. The two sustained minor injuries.

FHP is still determining if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
