Brunwick police: Pedestrian lying in road when hit

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Police now believe the 20-year-old man who died early Monday morning after he was struck by a taxicab on Altama Avenue was lying on the street when he was hit.

Brunswick police say Dejon Dawson was stuck between R and Q Street at 2:50 a.m. when it struck Dejon Dawson, of Brunswick. Dawson was taken to Southeast Georgia Heath System, where he died.

An autopsy showed Dawson died of blunt-force trauma consistent with being stuck by a vehicle and they are awaiting the results of toxicology testing.

Because he was already lying prone in the road before being hit by the cab, that driver has not been charged at this time.

Police are still investigating the fatal crash and ask anyone with information to contact Brunswick Police Sgt. Richard Meeks at 912-280-6974 or leave the information on the Silent Witness Hotline at 912-267-5516. You can also email information to bpdtips@brunswickpolice.org.
