Mega Pet Adoption event underway at Fairgrounds

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – More than a thousand puppies, kittens, dogs and cats are looking for homes at the First Coast No More Homeless Pets Mega Adoption Event.

The event takes place at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds and runs from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Animals up for adoption include dogs seized from a Westside home last month.

The event brings together shelters from across Northeast Florida, which are the largest of their kind in the nation.

Adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and vaccinated.

"Coming here today it actually brought tears to my eyes," said Rebecca Dallman, who adopted a dog. "It's a good feeling knowing they won't rot in a cage they'll have a fun loving household to play in."

The event runs through Sunday, April 19. Admission and parking is free.
