Gainesville police investigate homicide


GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gainesville Police Department was investigating a homicide in the Pine Ridge neighborhood late Monday night.

Police received multiple 911 calls about shots being fired on NW 57th Place.

Officers arrived and found a man, who appeared to be in his 20s, shot and unresponsive.  He was transported to UF Health and died.

Multiple officers, including forensics units and K-9s, were combing the area to find any evidence.

A weapon was located not far from the initial scene.

A suspect has not been identified.  Multiple witnesses were working with law enforcement officials.

Crisis teams were called in to help the victim's family deal with the situation, according to GPD.
