Springfield church catches fire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Firefighters are battling a fire at a church on East 4th Street on Wednesday afternoon.

The extent of the fire and damage at Bethesda Faith Assembly had not been released, but Jacksonville Fire Rescue said it was under control by 3:45 p.m. Additional fire units were dispatched throughout the afternoon to provide relief for firefighters working in the heat.

A JFRD spokesman said smoke was a big issue until firefighters could open the skylights to vent the building.

The state fire marshal has been called to determine the cause and assess damages.
