Putnam deputies seek armed robbery suspect

PALATKA, Fla. – At about 3:45 p.m. Friday afternoon an armed robbery was reported at the Kangaroo convenience store at US 17 and West River Road north of Palatka, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

The clerk reported that a black man wearing overalls, a blue shirt and a green hard hat walked into the store and demanded money from the cash drawer. According to the clerk, the man kept his hand in his pocket, indicating he was armed, but did not display a weapon.

After taking the money from the register, the man got into a small blue SUV and drove away. The clerk was not harmed.

A few minutes after the responding deputies arrived at the robbery scene, a citizen called the Sheriff's Office reporting a blue Jeep SUV driving recklessly on Beech Street just north of Palatka. Additional officers responded and found a blue 2006 Jeep abandoned along the railroad tracks by the Old Jacksonville Highway.

Detectives have been assigned to the robbery investigation and are following additional leads.
