MELROSE, Fla. – A 36-year-old Melrose woman was arrested Saturday and charged with passing a counterfeit $100 bill, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Shannon Marie Allen was booked into the Putnam County Jail under $7,500 bond.

A report by Deputy Nicholas Vieira revealed that on April 8, Allen went shopping at the Family Dollar Store in Melrose and attempted to pay for the items she had picked out with a counterfeit $100 bill.

Allen was accompanied by Nathaniel Edwin Davis, 35, of Putnam Hall, who also attempted to pass two counterfeit $100 bills.

The store clerk refused to accept the counterfeit money and notified the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

The case was assigned to Detective Marcus Phillips. Following his investigation, Phillips was able to obtain arrest warrants for both Allen and Davis.

Deputy Vieira located Allen on Saturday evening and took her into custody without incident. Davis has not yet been located.

The investigation into this case, as well as a case involving counterfeit $20 bills in Welaka this weekend, is continuing but thus far no connection has been discovered between the two incidents, investigators said.
