Person walking dog finds woman's body in NW Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Homicide detectives are investigating after the body of a woman was found Wednesday morning along Silver Street, about a half-block north of Andrew Robinson Elementary School.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said someone walking their dog at 9:23 a.m. found the woman, later identified as 45-year-old Sabrina Michelle Blackshear, in a patch of grass beside the sidewalk near a vacant lot.

The scene is near West 15th Street, about one-half block north of Andrew Robinson Elementary School.

Police have not determined how she died. They were canvassing the neighborhood and waiting for the medical examiner to examine the body.

"Finding this type of situation, foul play is suspected," said Sgt. Chuck Ford.

A resident of the neighborhood was shaken by the news.

"This morning was devastating. To get up and find out that it's a dead body no more than three houses down," said Dominique Jackson. "I'm buying this home. It was supposed to be a peaceful community for me and my kids. And if they would have walked that way to school because it's a shortcut, they would have found that, and it would have destroyed their mind."

Police said that Silver Street would likely remain closed through early afternoon while evidence from the crime scene is collected.
