Shots fired at deputies in East Palatka

EAST PALATKA, Fla – Putnam County deputies have detained a man after they say he shot at them.

The shooting around midnight as Putnam County sheriff's deputies were responding to a report of shots fired on Horse Farm Road in East Palatka. 

When they arrived, the deputies say a man fired shots in their direction. Investigators believe the man didn't intend to shoot at the deputies; they think he may not have even known they were there.

According to investigators, the shooting was likely part of an ongoing neighborhood dispute.

"It appears that that the shooter was shooting in an attempt to intimidate one of his neighbors," said Putnam County Sheriff's Office Capt. Joseph Wells.

Deputies took the shooter into custody, but his name and what charges he will face were not released at the scene.
