GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Freedom didn't last too long for one man in Gainesville.

Police say Randy Randolph III was just released from jail Saturday when he tried to carjack a woman at a gas station on Northeast Waldo Road.

Authorities say the woman left her Nissan Armada running at the gas pumps with her 10 and 7-year-old grandchildren inside.

Police say Randolph got in the driver seat and tried to drive off. A witness heard the children screaming and reached inside the car and pulled Randolph out of the car.

Authorities say Randolph tried to run southbound on Waldo. He was recaptured after a brief foot chase.

Randolph is once again in the Alachua County jail.
