Driver killed in single-car crash in Alachua County

NEWBERRY, Fla. – A migrant farm laborer was killed in a single-car crash early Monday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol has not released the name pending notification of next of kin.

Troopers say the driver of a gold 2008 Nissan Sentra was going north on U.S. 27/41, State Road 45 when, for reasons unknown, the driver allowed his vehicle to veer or drift to the left, where it entered onto the grassy shoulder without the presence of braking or any steering.

The car then continued down the shoulder of the roadway before it ran into a large oak tree, striking the tree.
