Man recovering after gunshot to chest

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville police are investigating after a person was shot in his chest Sunday afternoon.

Investigators said they were sent to a house on Timber Point Drive on Jacksonville's Westside, after they received a call about someone being shot. Police have  identified the victim as Mack Bernard III. Police said when they got to the house, no one was home.

They later found the person had been driven to St. Vincent's hospital in Middleburg, and then taken to U-F Health for surgery on a gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim's condition is said to be non-life threatening. A suspect has not been arrested.
