Dealership back to work after 2 fires Monday night

Firefighters put out 2 fires on same night at AutoNation Ford dealership

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The AutoNation Ford dealership on Blanding Boulevard was back in business Tuesday after firefighters doused not one but two fires at the Westside dealership Monday night.

Crews could be seen cleaning up damage to the building Tuesday morning but by noon it was mostly business as usual.

Around 6:20 p.m. Monday firefighters responded to the dealership because of smoke reported inside the building. Firefighters found charred embers in some mulch near the bushes, which started from a smoking device, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

Firefighters were able to put the fire out immediately and left the scene, but an hour later wood paneling that was near the brush fire heated up and caught fire.

There were people inside the dealership at the time and everyone escaped. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were able to control the fire in 20 to 30 minutes.

About 60 to 70 firefighters were on scene for safety reasons and because of the size of the building.

Monday night, officials said there was no damage to any of the cars.
