Man sought after breaking into home, assaulting sleeping woman, Seminole cops say

Deputies say woman woke up to intruder touching her leg

OVIEDO, Fla. – Seminole County deputies are searching for a man who they say broke into a family's home and assaulted a woman while she was asleep.

Deputies said the woman was in her bed with her husband at her home off Rutherford Place in Oviedo at 3 a.m. Wednesday when she woke up to find a man touching her leg.

The man crouched on the floor to try to hide, but fled when she reached out and touched him on his back, according to deputies.

"My understanding was his wife woke up, she felt somebody touching her leg, saw him standing over her," said neighbor Sharif Mohr.

The woman immediately woke up her husband and called 911.

"At first, she thought it might be a dream or whatever," said Mohr.

Deputies said they searched the neighborhood but were not able to find the man, who was described as tall with a thin build and dark hair and wearing a light-colored T-shirt and dark boxer-style briefs.

Investigators said they believe the man may have entered and exited the home through an unlocked sliding door, according to the release.

Deputies said they spoke with neighbors, several of whom reported that their security alarms activated during the early morning hours, but didn't notice anything suspicious at the time.

One neighbor had surveillance video of a man, concealing his face, approaching a home at the same time as the burglary, appearing to try to break into that home but not being able to get in, according to deputies.

Deputies said they believe they had a suspect but that the person was cleared, which explains the delay in releasing information on the incident.

Mohr said he was one of the men in the neighborhood who was interviewed.

"So, they just wanted to ask me a few questions to just kind of eliminate me basically," he said.
