JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A possible lightning strike sparked a fire on some debris at Rainbow Muffler, less than two months after an explosion gutted the car repair shop, according to Jacksonville Fire Rescue.
Firefighters were called to Rainbow Muffler on Philips Highway and University Boulevard Monday evening.
There was no major damage and fire crews got it under control quickly.
The same car repair shop was badly damaged in an explosion on April 14. It blew out most of the windows and sent two people to the hospital, including an employee.
Former manager Daniel Nixon said the injured employee was one of several who grabbed fire extinguishers inside the building and tried to put the fire out. He said once they realized the fire was spreading too quickly, they had to get everyone out.
"It expanded to the cars and was a chain reaction," Nixon said. "It's a common thing that can happen in the environment."
JFRD said the fire was accidental.
