1 injured after jumping from 3rd floor apartment fire
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man jumped 30 feet from a third-floor railing after the living room of his Arlington apartment caught fire Monday afternoon, according to Jacksonville Fire and Rescue.
The fire was at The Villas at Dames Point Crossing at 8291 Dames Point Crossing Blvd. and was put out within 10 minutes, fire officials said. The first units to the scene found heavy smoke and fire coming out of a third-floor unit.
The man, whose name has not been released, was injured when he jumped from the opposite side of the apartment from where the fire was burning, JFRD said. He was taken to a hospital but was in stable condition.
Fire officials said there was water damage to units below the one that had the fire.
The cause is undetermined at this time, but firefighters are investigating.
