Fire closes Anders Boulevard on Southside again


JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – All eastbound and westbound lanes of Anders Boulevard at Packard Drive are were closed for a few hours Tuesday because of a nearby fire in the woods.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue crews had equipment across the roadway as firefighters battled a 2 1/2 acre fire in the woods, which was started by careless campers, fire officials said.

The fire has been smoldering for four days, but JFR officials said no homes are threatened and there's been no need for evacuations. JFR crews were assisting the Forestry Service with extra water.

The re-opened around 5 p.m.

The road was also closed temporarily over the weekend from Peach Drive to Forest Boulevard because of the fire.
