GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 49-year-old Gainesville man was arrested Tuesday and charged with aggravated battery in connection with a stabbing at a Motel 6 last week.

Neil Lloyd Krause is accused of a slashing a man across the back during a fight over drug money June 3 in the parking lot of a Motel 6 on SW 40th Boulevard in Gainesville.

According to police, the victim suffered a gash on the right side of his back from his shoulder blade to his waist. The gash was 24 inches long and required 20 staples, but the wound was not life-threatening.

Police said Krause fled the scene when police arrived after a motel employee saw the fight and called 911.

After his arrest, Krause admitted in an interview that he was high on cocaine during the fight, and that "if he was sober, he probably wouldn't have been that paranoid and my not have cut the victim," police said.
