FHP; Driver of pickup truck was not wearing a seat belt

BAKER COUNTY, Fla. – A man from Texas is dead after his pickup truck flipped over on Interstate 10 early Monday morning.

Cody R. Westbrook, 22, was driving east along with two passengers in a Chevrolet Silverado when the car left the road and went onto the grassy shoulder, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The pickup flipped counterclockwise, causing the pickup to collide with a Department of Transportation information sign. The Silverado came to a final stop and Westbrook was ejected.

Westbrook and the two passengers were taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where Westbrook died. The passengers, a 19-year-old man and a 18-year-old woman, both had minor injuries.

According to the FHP report, Westbrook was not wearing a seat belt. Troopers are still investigating whether alcohol was a factor of the crash.
