Firefighters find body in Northside home

Jacksonville homicide detectives, state fire marshal's office investigating

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A report of a fire in a home in a Northside neighborhood early Monday afternoon led to the discovery of a middle-aged man dead inside.

According to Jacksonville Fire-Rescue, there was only light smoke damage to the home on Traci Lynn Drive, off Dunn Avenue, and there was no apparent cause to the fire. the fire was reported about 1 p.m.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office homicide detectives and the state fire marshal's office were called to investigate.

"We're proceeding right now as if foul play is involved," Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Craig Waldrup said. 

He said the man's identity would have be determined with an autopsy.

Because the neighborhood was roped off for the investigation, many residents coming home in the afternoon were not able to get to their homes right away. The homeowners were allowed back into the neighborhood about 5 p.m.
