Father suspected of killing son

John A. Peterson, 45, found dead in Keystone Heights

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS, Fla. – A Clay County father was suspected of shooting and killing his son Monday afternoon in his home, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies identified the victim as 45-year-old John A. Peterson.

They responded around 1:15 p.m. to the home on White Sands Road and found Peterson dead of a gunshot wound. Clay County homicide and robbery detectives spent the afternoon investigating just what happened.

The suspect was identified as Peterson's father, 68-year-old Dana Peterson.  Investigators said the shooting happened at Dana Peterson's home.

Most of the neighbors in the area are renters and say they didn't know much about the Petersons.  They did say it's rare to see police activity in the area.

"It kind of makes it scary for that to happen," said a woman who only gave her name as Dana.

Deputies said Dana Peterson has not been arrested at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
