Police: 12-year-old hit by car downtown

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 12-year-old girl who ran out into the street was hit by a car and critically injured Thursday afternoon in Downtown Jacksonville, according to police.

A blue car was traveling south on Main Street near Monroe Street when the girl ran out. She was not in a crosswalk when she was hit, police said.

The girl was taken to UF Health in critical condition.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide is investigating to see if the driver will be cited.
