Smartphone app tip leads to arrest

LAKE CITY, Fla. – The Lake City Police Department said a tip it received from the smartphone MyPD app led to an arrest.

The tip, which gave a specific address, led police to an area where a man was engaging in lewd acts in plain view of passing motorists, neighbors and kids in the neighborhood, police said. Subsequently, that man was arrested.

Police are encouraging everyone to download the app, giving people the ability to report crimes to law enforcement quickly and easily. The app also allows users to upload GPS data and photos.

However, officers caution the public that the app does not replace the use of 911 during an emergency.
