Woman hit, killed by train in Waycross

WAYCROSS, Ga. – The Waycross Police Department says a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a CSX train around 2:45 a.m. Sunday morning.

Jessica Elaine Parker, 41, of Waycross, Georgia, was walking northbound along South Nichols Street when she ignored the railroad crossing arms that were in use, police said. Parker failed to stop for the oncoming train and walked directly in front of the train, according to police.

Parker's body was thrown about 70 feet west of the crossing because of the force of the impact. She died at the scene of the crash.

Her body is being sent to the state crime lab for further examination. Police say the accident investigation is ongoing.
