Man posing as law enforcement attempts to scam Flagler residents

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – The Flagler County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a man who is making phone calls, posing as a captain or lieutenant.

The Sheriff's Office said several residents reported the man called them, stating that there was an active arrest warrant for their arrest and that the victim must pay a $1,000 fine.

Deputies said in one case the man instructed the victim to obtain two $500 gift cards.

The Sheriff's Office is reminding residents that it will never ask for payment over the phone. Anyone receiving a call similar to this should not give any personal information over the phone and should not send any type of payment, the Sheriff's Office advises.

In addition, victims should contact the Sheriff's Office immediately with as much information on the call as possible.
