JFRD fights blaze after explosion at mobile home
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating an explosion and fire that neighbors said destroyed a mobile home on the Westside Thursday evening.
Jacksonville Fire-Rescue responded to the fire near Camfield Street near Hipps Road.
Neighbors told News4Jax they heard a loud noise before seeing the flames and arriving firefighters saw several cars driving away from the scene.
"We were out in the yard, had the kids playing in the yard. Next thing we know we heard a boom," said Brian Harris. "We didn't think nothing about it because we always hear booms out here. Next thing we know our neighbor is screaming that a house is on fire. So we ran out here to the gate and looked and you could see flames coming up from the trees, 50-foot tall flames, smoke in the air."
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire has not been released, but the fire marshal found signs of drug activity in the home.
