HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A Miami-area police officer sitting in his patrol car shot and killed a man who allegedly was wielding a gun.
Miami-Dade Police Detective Marjorie Eloi says the Homestead Police Department officer responded Thursday afternoon to a call about an armed man near a construction site.
Eloi tells The Miami Herald that while he was still in his car, the officer gave a verbal warning and "a firearm was brandished." It wasn't clear how many shots were fired at 35-year-old Edward Foster III, who died at a hospital.
Homestead Police Detective Fernando Morales says Officer Anthony Green was cleared in fatal shootings in 2005 and 2007. Green also shot and wounded a burglary suspect in 2008.
State records show Foster was on probation for a 2011 conviction for armed robbery and attempted murder.
