Palatka man sentenced for cooking meth around a child

Convicted felon also faces multiple weapons charges

PALATKA, Fl. – Elbert Lewis Gilbert, 48, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison after being convicted Monday on multiple drug and weapons charges.

Gilbert was arrested on November 26, 2014, after the Putnam County Sheriff's Office Drug and Vice Unit, along with the SWAT and Rifle Security Teams, executed a search warrant at his East Palatka home.

The search warrant, which was part of a long-term undercover investigation conducted by Sheriff's Narcotics Detectives, resulted in the recovery of processed methamphetamine and items used in the manufacture of the drug.

During the investigation detectives confirmed that Gilbert was manufacturing and selling methamphetamine from his 202 Gilbert Road address.

As a result of the investigation Detectives charged Gilbert with the sale and manufacture of methamphetamines in the presence of a minor child and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

A judge ruled that Gilbert will remain on probation for five years after completing his sentence.
